First Screening Copper cast into iron, 2019. (36x14x78 cm)
Cast copper inlaid in a sand mold then poured with cast iron, trapping the copper inside in order to encourage long term instability, creating an artistic representation of scoliosis.
Stages of this project: Life Casting, plaster cast, wax painting then removing those wax pieces to cast in copper, reattaching copper pieces, creating a 500lb sand mold with inlaid copper pieces, preheating mold, casting the final piece in iron at a community iron pour, and finally de-gating and cleaning the piece. "First Screening" is left unsealed with no intentional patina in order to encourage decay.
